- Outline the hip anatomy and recognize ultrasound appearance of the normal hip.
- Identify common hip pathology as seen with ultrasound.
- State the importance of dynamic ultrasound imaging of the snapping hip.
- Recognize that bursitis is uncommon in a patient with a painful trochanter.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Physicians, PA’s, sonographers and other medical professionals who will be involved with performing and/or interpreting MSK ultrasound examinations. Physicians may include (but is not limited to) PM&R, orthopedic, sports medicine, rheumatology, pain management, primary care, internal medicine, and radiology.

- Joint abnormalities: hip effusion, labral tear, paralabral cyst, femoro-acetabular impingement, hip arthroplasty
- Bursal Pathology: trochanteric pain syndrome, trochanteric bursitis, iliopsoas bursal fluid
- Muscle and tendon injury: acute muscle and tendon injury, tendinosis, semimembranosus tear, sports hernia, complete tear adductor longus, rectus femoris tear, calcific tendinosis, iliopsoas hemorrhage
- Snapping Hip syndrome
- Miscellaneous pathology: Morel-Lavallée lesion; Acute and Chronic cellulitis
- Soft-tissue abscess
- Inflammatory myositis
- Lymph node evaluation
- Soft-tissue myxoma
- Soft-tissue sarcoma
